Charles and Rocco Fischetti
*****Much has been said over the years about the exact relation between the Fischettis and Al Capone. A simple genealogical proved fruitless. On the web, most amateur geneologists have the wrong Fischettis listed, along with the wrong Capones. There were two families of Fischettis living in the same Brooklyn area at that time. They may have even been related. The right family for the gangster brothers connected to Capone had the parents listed as Mary Fischetti and Nicola Fischetti, living at 584 Carroll Street in Brooklyn.
Now as far as Capone being related to them without the proof of genealogical records, we can fairly say that they were somewhat related, just based on the positive proof there is available to us. Please keep in mind that I'm a Capone researcher, and not a genealogist. I'll leave that time consuming effort to the brave folks who dedicate their time and valiant efforts at that noble endeavour.
The Fischettis have been connected to Capone from the very early mid 1900's.
1910 Capones are living at 21 Garfield Place.
1915, the Capones move to 46 Garfield Place. The Fischettis are at 584 Carroll Street.
1917, the Capones are now at 38 Garfield Place. The Fischettis remain at 584 Carroll Street.
The Fischetti brothers will later follow Capone in Chicago. Charles will make the Chicago newspapers in 1924, when he was in Cicero with Frank Capone on the day he was killed by police.
Charles will make the newspapers for other events such as the hunt for Martin Durkin, another gangster wanted for murder in 1925.
In 1926, Charles Fischetti will be arrested with Ralph Capone. Police find weapons and ammo in Ralph Capone's apartment. The police are searching evidence linking anyone to William McSwiggin's murder.
In March of 1928, the first mention of a kinship to Capone is printed in the papers.
December 1928, Charles is arrested carrying a gun. He is again mentioned as a cousin of Al Capone. The address shows him living at The Lexington Hotel.
1929, we have Charles Fischetti actually talking to reporters on Al's behalf while Al is in Philadelphia prison.
One would think that Fischetti would have said something if the relationship of Al being his cousin were not true.
